Black Excellence Through the Ages.
Presented last night by the students of the Black Student Union at Center High School. An amazing performance. Created, directed, and performed 100% by students.
They spoke from the mind and they spoke from the heart. They talked of pride and they talked of struggle. They celebrated excellence and they called for equity. They sang, they danced, they drummed. They performed as a family.
Enjoy the photos. Video and more stories to come.

Four Center students are going to DECA INTERNATIONALS!!!
DECA is a national program to help high school students learn and practice skills that can be used in business management, marketing, and entrepreneurship. In addition to skills learned in the classroom, part of the program is competition in a variety of program areas. Our team of 28 members participated earlier this spring in regional competition, with 8 members qualifying for the State level. Four of those earned the opportunity to travel to the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) later this spring in Anaheim, California!
Josephine Mosby & Emma Willard competed in Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making. For competition they were required to take a 100-question exam where Josie Mosby was awarded the top test score in this category. After the exam, they competed in a Business Law & Ethics Scenario Role Play in front of a Business Professional. Their combined scores gave them a 4th place finish and a qualification to Internationals.
Susan Besong & Scholar Besong competed in the Independent Business Plan, where they developed a written business plan, business investment pitch deck, and prototyped their product. Their incredible idea and presentation received 3rd place at MO DECA State conference and also a qualification to ICDC.
Congratulations to all of our business students and best of luck at the next level!
Congratulations to Center High School Principal Mark Wiegers. Named as a recipient of the "Consummate Professional" Award from the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals!!

The Center High School Scholar Bowl team culminated an outstanding Missouri River Valley Conference season with CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP!!
The JV team entered the tournament as a 3rd seed. They won easily their three Preliminary games and entered the Final 4 up against Pleasant Hill JV. They had a strong match and won 290-160 to go into the Championship. In the final they came up a little short against a very strong Lafayette Co team. They finished runner up. Dimitri Miller took 3rd individual overall and Vi took 4th overall. The team ended conference play with a record of 13-3 and 18-7 on the year with one more tournament left.
The Varsity team entered the tournament as a 2nd seed. They had a difficult match to start off at Warrensburg HS but were able to win by a thin 50-point margin. Then after a bye, the easily won their next Prelim to advance to the Final 4. In the final, they were up against their only Conference team to beat the Jackets this year, Carrollton HS. Well, this game had 8 lead changes and 9 ties in 22 questions - including the 22nd and final question. So, it went into Sudden Death (Golden Goal) overtime. First team to answer one question correct, wins. The topic was literature and AnneMarie knew the answer, Huckleberry Finn! Thus, the Jackets advanced to the final.
In the final against Oak Grove the Jackets took a slim 20 point lead into the final question and were able to hold on for the victory in a razor thin final match!
Your Varsity team is the 2024 MRVC Conference Tournament Champions!
Avery Bennekin ended in 8th place overall.
The team ended conference play with a 16-1 record and a 48-23 Overall record. We have two more tournaments and then Districts on April 13.
Great Day for the Yellowjackets.
They are back in action at the Maple Woods Scholar Bowl on Tuesday, March 5.
