Boone Elementary students celebrated Black History Month with a musical performance last night at Colonial Presbyterian Church. They performed a variety of selections including "Lift Every Voice and Sing", "Ubuntu", and "I AM Somebody". Thanks to the students, music director Jon Pierson and the team at Boone for a wonderful evening.

Center High School is proud to host a Community Panel Discussion on Fentanyl Awareness this Thursday evening, Feb. 22nd. The co-sponsors are US Representatives Emmanuel Cleaver and Mark Alford. A wide range of panelists will help our community learn about the dangers of Fentanyl to help us protect our community. Doors open at 6pm, program starts at 7pm. No charge to attend. All are welcome.

Here's the schedule for the week for the Center School District:
Monday - School will be held AS SCHEDULED. We know everyone is excited, but it is really important that we have excellent attendance and focus as we get back to the business of unlocking potential and igniting minds!
Tuesday - School will be held as scheduled.
Wednesday - PARADE DAY!! Center Schools will be CLOSED for all staff and students to celebrate with our Chiefs and our community. We are using our LAST snow day for this event. Celebrate enthusiastically, but safely so that on --
Thursday - we are back in school and learning!
Friday - No School for students as this is a Professional Development day for staff.
Special note - the MRVC Choir Event on Wednesday evening WILL take place as scheduled.
Also, remember that Monday, February 19th is the President's Day holiday and we will have no school that day.

We are sad to announce the passing of Coach Max Hayes yesterday, Feb 8th, at the age of 95. He taught and coached at Center from 1961 - 1988 leaving a legacy of lives made better for his presence. He is a member of the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
After coaching at Campus High School in Goodland, Kansas for 10 years (including a state championship, he joined the family at Center High School in 1961. He coached a number of outstanding teams, inlcuding the undefeated State champions in 1976. His overall record was 538-230. He also coached the golf team with six trips to the State Championships. He was inducted to both the Kansas & Missouri Basketball Hall of Fame.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Colonial Presyterian Church, where he and his wife, Bonnie, were active members.
