Center High School

On Wednesday, January 31st three very different events took place at the same time at Center High School. These events represent the diversity of our community and the diversity of opportunities for our students and families who are part of the Center School District. It was a busy, but very rewarding evening.

Upstairs in the Media Center, the CHS National Honor Society inducted 21 new juniors and seniors as members of the National Honor Society. Centered on four pillars (knowledge, service, leadership, and character), NHS recognizes outstanding achievements by our High School scholars. The entire ceremony was planned and run by the student leaders, including this year’s President, Kisa Robinson. Congratulatory speeches were shared by Superintendent Cargile, Board President Cook, and Principal Wiegers. The pillars of the NHS were explained by the current leaders of Center High School’s group (along with a candle lighting for each). The new members were introduced and then recited the NHS pledge together. Congratulations to all who participated.

Meanwhile, in the High School Cafeteria a non-profit organization named Strive for Life Foundation provided free heart screenings for Center students and their families. The screenings are designed to detect any potential cardiac issues before they become critical. This is especially important for youngsters participating in athletics, band, or other strenuous activities. Volunteers from Strive for Life did screenings for over 30 individuals. Based on the high level of response from our community, it is likely that we will be able to hold additional screening events in the near future.

Finally, the biggest event in terms of attendance took place in our two gymnasiums. The Center Athletic Department hosted “District Night”. Students, families, alumni, and community gathered to watch basketball (four games with both boys and girls), hear powerful music from the All-District Pep Band, and see a sparkling performance from the All-District cheerleaders, with representatives from High School, Middle School, and (cutest of all) our Mini-Cheeleaders from all four elementary schools. Click here to view (and hear) the band perform.

The crowds were large and enthusiastic with a positive energy in the building that could be felt as soon as you walked in the front hall. Thanks to all who were part of this amazing evening!
