Market Value Assets (MVA)

A cornerstone experience that prepares a student for future learning and employment. MVAs are authentic previews of the world of work or post-secondary education. While the professional and academic worlds are ever-changing, the outgrowths students develop when they work on authentic projects with real employers and mentors are durable enough to benefit them throughout their lives.

Center/South Kansas City Consortium First Responders Program: Preparing the Next Generation of Heroes

The Center/South Kansas City Consortium First Responders Program is an innovative year-long course led by Roxanne Glover, designed for students from Center, Ruskin, and Grandview High Schools. In collaboration with the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD), Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), and the Grandview Fire and Police Departments, this course offers an immersive exploration of careers in the first responder field.

Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge in various aspects of emergency services. The curriculum is divided into focused segments:

  • First Semester: EMT and Firefighting fundamentals.

  • Third Quarter: Police department operations and procedures.

  • Fourth Quarter: A Client Connect project, where students collaborate with industry partners aligned with their specific career goals.

This program primarily targets juniors, providing them with a strong foundation to transition into more specialized programs, such as the Summit Technology Academy's Fire Academy or Herndon Career Center's Law or EMT programs in their senior year.

Certifications & Skills
Participants in the program can earn valuable certifications, including Stop the Bleed, First Aid, CPR, and OSHA 10. Students also benefit from numerous hands-on activities, off-campus site visits, and real-world experiences that expose them to the day-to-day life of first responders.

Building Strong Partnerships for Career Pathways
Our program thrives on partnerships with local businesses and organizations, ensuring students have access to diverse career opportunities:

  • T & L Welding: Provides combination welding certifications.

  • Transformed Barber and Cosmetology Academy: Offers state certifications in Barbering, Cosmetology, or Manicuring.

  • Future Collaborations: We are actively working to expand partnerships, including developing a Real Estate pathway with ReeceNichols Realtors and exploring CDL and diesel mechanic courses with Zeta CDL School for seniors.

Our strongest, longest-standing partnerships with Herndon Career Center and Summit Technology Academy continue to provide students with invaluable experience across a range of fields.

Together, our dedicated educators and business partners are committed to a student-first approach, helping students discover meaningful career paths and develop essential skills for their futures.
